  INTRODUCTION

Each Bettys has a different feel to it. At the RHS Gardens at Harlow Carr in Harrogate, we have created a Bettys fit for an English country garden.

We offer all the usual delights of a visit to Bettys - delicious cakes, freshly baked bread, scrumptious three course meals and, of course, the high standards and friendly smiles - but in a very different location.

Here you will enjoy an elevated position overlooking the beautiful grounds of RHS Garden Harlow Carr. The 58-acre garden can be found on the south-western outskirts of Harrogate, and is home to peaceful woodland, meadows, flower gardens and seven historical gardens from the BBC series 'Gardens Through Time'. As it's located alongside rather than inside, you don't have to pay to enter the gardens in order to visit Bettys.

  INTRODUCTION

The story of Bettys began in 1919 when our founder, Frederick Belmont, opened his first Bettys Café Tea Room in the fashionable spa town of Harrogate

Bettys Ilkley
  INTRODUCTION

After an energetic walk on Ilkley Moor or a visit to scenic Bolton Abbey, Bettys Café Tea Rooms on Ilkley's tree-lined Grove is the perfect place to refuel and relax.

Alternatively, you can stock up on a cake or two from the shop before setting out for a lengthy ramble.
Ilkley is many people's favourite Bettys. Blessed with a lovely Wharfedale location, the shop looks south towards Ilkley Moor, and the Café Tea Rooms faces north towards Middleton Moor.

The bright, sunny Café Tea Rooms are lit by windows inset with stained glass Yorkshire flowers and motifs.
A collection of antique and contemporary teapots is displayed around the walls, and the café also boasts 'La Chasse', the largest ever marquetry picture made by the Spindler Studio in Alsace.

It depicts a medieval hunting scene and is made entirely of unstained wood veneers.

Bettys Stonegate York logo
  INTRODUCTION

With its quaint and traditional interior, Bettys Stonegate (previously known as "Little Bettys") is a charming place to take a break from shopping or sightseeing in the famous city of York.

Situated in a listed building on medieval Stonegate, just a stone's throw from York Minster, you'll be greeted by a characterful shop with antique dressers and cabinets, stocked with an extensive range of teas and coffees, cakes and gifts.

Up a flight of winding stairs there's a cosy café with wooden beams, and roaring fires in the winter. Just as our cakes and breads celebrate the best of traditional craft skills, so too do our interiors.

At Bettys Stonegate be sure to look out for fixtures and fittings by the 'Mouseman of Kilburn', whose oak carvings all carry a trademark 'signature' mouse. Bettys Stonegate is also home to a large collection of prints, advertisements and paraphernalia, which tell the story of the tea trade.

Bettys York

Bettys York
St Helen?s Square
York
YO1 8QP

Bettys York logo
  INTRODUCTION

In 1936 the founder of Bettys, Frederick Belmont, travelled on the maiden voyage of the Queen Mary.

He was so enthralled by the splendour of the ship that he commissioned the Queen Mary's designers and craftsmen to turn a dilapidated furniture store into his most sophisticated branch yet - an elegant café in the land-locked location of St Helen's Square. Today, as you sit in Bettys, surrounded by huge curved windows, elegant wood panelling and ornate mirrors, you can almost imagine yourself aboard a luxury liner.

The art deco elegance of the Queen Mary is particularly evident in our first floor Belmont Room which was inspired by one of the cruise liner's state rooms. Throughout the year we host musical evenings and events here.

A few years after Bettys opened its doors in York war broke out, and Bettys - in particular the basement 'Bettys Bar' - became a favourite haunt of thousands of airmen stationed around York. 'Bettys Mirror', on which many of them engraved their signatures with a diamond pen, remains on display today as a fitting tribute to their bravery.

  TEA MENU

Tea

  • Nutty Chocolate Tea

Inspired by tea & chocolate this blend is a match made in heaven. With a strong, rich and full bodied 2nd flush Assam base, this is a powerful yet honeyed tea with malty overtones. The deep chocolate richness comes from cocoa nibs and is complemented by delicate hazelnut flavouring and can be enjoyed with or without milk. *Nut allergy sufferers will not be affected.

  • Elderflower & Blossom Darjeeling

Widely regarded as the finest tea in the world the 1st flush Darjeeling is considered the Champagne of the Tea world and can only be picked for three weeks of the year. Grown at altitudes around 6000 ft the Darjeeling is light tea that is packed with delightful flavour which is delicately complimented by elderflower.

  • Passion Fruit Ceylon

Ceylon teas originate from a variety of altitudes on hill sides in Sri Lanka that have been growing on the same hillsides since 1848.  This high grown tea has a beautifully light flavour and blends perfectly with the sweet flavour of caramelised passion fruit. Tea

Priory House Tea Rooms serves Dunstable Tea. It offers a variety of top quality loose leaf teas created, and named, for the history and heritage of Dunstable. The range is made up of 20 different teas and infusions.

Dunstable Tea is also available for sale in loose leaf form and six varieties are also available in tea bags for just £3.00 a box:

Kingsbury ? Kenyan

This broken Orange Pekoe comes from Kenya.  The liquor is full-bodied and suffused with favour.  This tea is named after the royal residence build in 1123 by King Henry I.

Prince George ?  Blend of Assam & Kenyan

A blend of Assam and Keyan teas relased to commemorate the birth of His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.  The blend was chosen for its strength and richness, with a traditional warm dark reddish colour of Kenyan tea.

Anna Maria?s ? Afternoon Tea

China Keemun merged with Darjeeling offers tea with a little more body,  ideally suited for the afternoon, and named after the 7th Duchess of Bedford who is said to have started the trend for afternoon tea in the early 1800s.

Canon's Choice

This is a high tea from the Harmutty Tea Estate in the state of Assam.  It is brisk and robust, with a full boddied malty character.  It has been named for the Augustinian Order of Canons at Dunstable Priory. The Canons wore an all black habit and were known as the Black Canons.

Cloisters

A twisted large leaf Ceylon Orange Pekoe, grown at the Kenilworth Tea Garden in Sri Lanka.  This tea, named for the cloisters within the original Priory walls, the remains of which can still be seen in the undulating landscape of the Priory Meadow, has a lovely flavour suitable for any time of day.

Black Friars

This is a blend of Chinese teas, including Lapsang Souchong, creating a flavour with the slightest hint of smoke.  It is named for the Dominican Friars who came to Dunstable in 1259 and built a Friary to the west of High Street South.  Like the Canon's the Friars also wore a black habit and were known as the Black Friars.

Norman King

Darjeeling, known as the king of teas, is a light, black tea.  This Second Flush leaf comes from the Makaibari Tea Garden in Kurseong, West Bengal.  Named for the Norman King, Henry I who founded the Dunstable Priory in the 1100's gave Dunstable its Charters and was the Grandson of William the Conqueror

Earl Grey

It is a light, slightly perfumed tea with a hint of bergamot, making it smooth and very refreshing whether served with milk or with a slice of lemon.

Queen Eleanor

A blend of light, Green tea and winter spices a more delicate version of a classic black chai.  We have named this tea after Queen Eleanor, beloved wife of King Edward I whose body was transported from Lincoln to Westminster, stopping overnight at the Priory in December 1292.  A small commemorative statue resides in the town to replace the original cross.

Dame Sayers Peppermint

A light, Green tea infused with Pepermint Oil, named for Dame Sayers Manor, the name by which Priory House was reffered to in the late 17th century when it was left to Robert Crawley's wife following his death in 1694.

Grove House

A blend of Sencha Green Tea with Mango pieces.  This tea is named for Grove House; originally a coaching inn called the Duke's Arms.  The inn was later rented out as two houses; Grove House and The Beeches.  In the early 1900's the houses were combined into a single building once again by arthur Bagshawe and sold to Dunstable Borough Council in 1936.

Maiden Bower

A light Sencha Green tea made from small leaves, neatly rolled and uniform in shape and is especially rare.  Named for the Maiden Bower Hillfort, the most significant Iron Age monument in the country, which sits on the Green Lanes on the north west edge of Dunstable.

Infusions

Prior's Garden

This is a rich fruity infusion made up of berries which is naturally caffeine free and has a mulled wine flavour.  Named for the Monastic leader of the Cannons at the Augustinian Priory.  Priors would have had far superior accommodation often with their own garden in which to contemplate.

Queen Mary

A blood orange flavoured infusion, naturally caffeine free with a strong citrus flavour which we have named after Mary Tudor, the Bloody Queen, who throughout her reign presecuted and executed many of the leading Protestants of her time.  Her mother, Catherine of Aragon, had her marriage annulled in the Priory in 1533 and Mary in later years, gave the church a decorated wooden screen that can still be seen.

Saracen's Head

This infusion of apple and lemon pieces has a warm spiced flavour and is naturally caffeine free, we have named it for the Saracen's Head, Dunstable's oldest surviving inn.  Parts of the building date back to the 16th century, although much of the original building was destroyed in a fire in 1815. A buried hoard of Civil War coins were found hidden during the rebuild.

Tudor

Often referred to as Red Bush, Rooibos is a naturally caffeine free infusion that contains high levels of anti-oxidants.  It is grown in a small area in the region of the Western Cape province of South Africa.  This has been named for the Tudors, who have had such an impact on Dunstable.

The Goring Hotel

The Goring Hotel
15 Beeston Place
London
SW1W 0JN

The Goring Hotel logo
  INTRODUCTION

The Goring did not invent afternoon tea; however the Goring family has been serving it for over 100 years.  The Tea Guild honoured us in 2013 with the most coveted prize ? The Top London Afternoon Tea Award 2013.  Afternoon tea is served on well spaced tables by the fireplace in the winter and overlooking the magnificent acre of manicured garden in the summer.  Afternoon tea guests are encouraged to join in the croquet which is in full swing on the pristine English lawn.

Her Majesty the Queen recently bestowed a royal warrant to the hotel which was also a favourite of the late Queen Mother.

Our finest range of many and varied teas and infusions are individually sourced from the world?s top growing regions.  From single estates in Sri Lanka to family owned Himalayan plantations. We offered a great variety of tea Black and White tea, Oolong tea, Green tea and the increasingly popular infusions.

Our Black Teas

Produced from the leaves of different varieties of camellia bush, black teas are cut, rolled and oxidizied naturally in the open air, and fired to create varying degrees of colour and concentration.  Regional climate and soils, altitude, and careful manipulation of the processes all contribute to create surprising variations in flavor in flavor and colour.

Our White Teas

Picked, withered and sun or machine dried over a low heat, with no rolling to break the leaf skin, white tea has a mild, sweet, and distinctive flavor, without any of the grassy or vegetal flavours associated with green tea. It also has relatively low caffeine.

Our Green Teas

Fired soon after picking to prevent oxidation and preserve their green colouring, these teas are aromatic and characterful.  They have less caffeine than black varieties, yet still seem to give a considerable lift to the spirits.

Our Infusions

Freshly packed fruits and herbs that deliver an aromatic, invigorating and clean taste.  A wonderful fillip.  All these infusions can be enjoyed with the addition of honey or sugar.

  TEA MENU

Tea

BLACK TEAS:

The Goring Afternoon Blend

Our own blend of Assam and second flush Darjeeling makes for a light and delicate drink that is nevertheless satiating in its grip and strength

Fortnum and Mason Royal Blend

First blended for Edward VII in 1903 Royal is a blend of Assam and Ceylon characterised by a smooth and honey- like flavor

Ceylon

Harvested in the hill country of Sir Lanka and specially graded.  This bright cup has a full bodied and lively, spicy palate

Assam

Grown in the North- Eastern Indian state of Assam, the leaves have large golden tips, delicious malty aftertaste. Full bodied and brisk.

Lapsang Souchong

From the Zhen Shan province in China.  The large chunky Congou leaves are smoked over open pine fires to give this tea a thick, smoky aroma, with a sweet ginger and caramel aftertaste.

Earl Grey

Long leaf Ceylon and tippy Assam leaves.  Full bodied, with the natural fragrance and citrus flavour of ripe bergamot orange.  Much more floral than the Prime Minister who gave his name to it.

Premier Darjeeling

Grown in West Bengal in the shadow of the Himalayas.  Darjeeling means ?land of the thunderbolt?.  The silver tipped leaves are twisted whole and so release a delicate flavor and light colour.

WHITE TEAS:

Silver Needle

Made in the Fujian province from the Fuding Da Bai leaf.  Light, delicate quenching flavours are underpinned by a cucumber and melon freshness.  Surprisingly full textured with a satisfying velvety finish

Oolong Tea

The production of Oolong tea is extremely elaborate.  After withering and tossing on bamboo trays, the leaves are turned in a bamboo drum to bruise the edges and encourage oxidation.  The tea is then fired, hand rolled and fired again in a complicated cycle until its finished taste and character is achieved.

Yellow Gold Oolong

Grown in the Fujian Province.  A complex tea that combines typical Oolong body with the grassy freshness of a young green tea.  An aroma of blossoming lilies seems to lift the spirits.

GREEN TEAS:

Dragon Well

Picked once a year before the Quing Ming Lunar Festival in Zhenjiang, the site of the original Dragon Well.  This tea has a grassy freshness, underscored by the subtle liquorice root complexity and body.

Organic Maojian

From the leaf of the same name, this tea is from the misty garden of Anhui, where the nights are long there is little direct sunshine.  Grassy, aromatic and brisk, with a velvety texture.

Jasmine Pearls

Harvested in the Fujian Province and processed as green tea, then hand rolled with Jasmine into pearls with lavish ivory tips.  Rich, round and deeply jasmine infused.

Infusions

Gently dried whole rose buds.  Light and fragrant yet soothing

The Montague on the Gardens logo
  INTRODUCTION

An intimately serene atmosphere pervades this townhouse which feels more like a country hotel than one set within the famous literary Bloomsbury area of central London. The beautiful gardens help to foster this impression, while indoors the stylish public rooms are staffed by a dedicated and discreet team. The Montague on the Gardens hotel seems to inhabit two worlds. In front, is the British Museum and the hurly-burly of tourist London. To the rear, there's a serene private garden, cut off from the city by a rectangle of fine Georgian townhouses. Between the two lies The Montague - an intriguing blend of up-to-the-minute city vibrancy and old-world Bloomsbury calm.

Afternoon Tea in the Conservatory draws local residents as well as visitors. They come to catch up with the day's news and to demolish a generous plate of scones, served with strawberry jam and Devonshire clotted cream. Tea in the conservatory is delightful, with views on to the grounds beyond; or you can go one better in the summer, and sit on the terrace under a large sunshade.

This hotel has been awarded 'The Tea Guild special Awards of Excellence 2011, 2012, 2013' in recognition of its outstanding quality and consistently high standards in Afternoon Tea service.
